Interest Groups

The Interest Groups of the Faculty Women’s club provide a wonderful opportunity to meet new people, make new friends, and participate in fun, educational, and inspiring activities. Conveners of each group are listed under each group’s title. For privacy reasons, individual contact information has not been listed. If you would like more information about any of the following groups, or if you would like to join one of them, either contact the convener or  complete and submit the form on the Contact Us Web page. Please note: the annual membership fee must be paid in order to participate in the interest groups.

Note: You can learn interesting information about what each of the groups has been doing this year by going to the individual groups listed under the “Interest Groups” menu item.

Art Appreciation

This group has monthly outings to local galleries and
artists’ studios, followed by optional lunch in a nearby
restaurant. We will aim to meet on the third Thursday of
each month. The scheduled day may vary depending
on exhibits, gallery requirements and tour availability.

Beginners’ Snowshoeing Group

If you have never snowshoed before, or only a few
times, this group is for you. We start the season with
the easiest trails and progress as the group’s skills and
endurance improve. We carpool to Cypress and
Seymour Mountains for a two-hour outing. Rentals are
available at both locations. The group meets on
Monday mornings.

Bible Discussion

The group will meet in members’ homes on the first and
third Friday of each month for coffee at 10 am and
discussion at 10:30 am.

Book Circulation

Welcome to another year of interesting books to read!
At the annual gathering each member of the group
contributes $30 to cover the cost of the books. Books
are exchanged on the first Monday of each month. At
the end of the year each member keeps one book.

Book Discussion

Join us for lively and enjoyable discussions of books
that cover a wide range of interesting and intriguing
topics and issues. We meet on the second Wednesday
of each month at 12:30 pm. Bring a bag lunch.

Bridge-Mixed (Evening Social)

This group meets at 7:30 pm on the first Friday of each
month, October to May, in members’ homes. New
members are welcome.

French Conversation
Jenny Podlecki, Helen Spencer
This group meets every Wednesday at 1:30 pm in a
member’s home. With the aid of a paid instructor,
French conversation and study are fostered for those
who, although not fluent, are not beginners.

Our group tours historical buildings and places of
interest in the Greater Vancouver area. We aim to meet
on the third Friday of the month, but this may vary
depending on tour guides and locations. Morning tours
are followed by lunch at a nearby restaurant.

This fit experienced group meets every Thursday to do
local hikes of various levels of difficulty. In the winter,
we may cross-country ski or snowshoe. In the summer,
longer hikes are arranged to other Lower Mainland
areas. Numbers are limited for safety reasons.

Hikers for a View

This group enjoys a full day of hiking at a comfortable
pace every Thursday, year-round.

Knit and Stitch

The group meets on alternate Wednesday mornings
in members’ homes for knitting, stitchery, crafts and
conversation. We invite members’ handiworks for sale
at our Christmas Boutique stall, as well as ideas for
new creations. New members are always welcome.

Let’s Eat Out

This group dines at various restaurants on the second
Wednesday of every month. Singles and couples are
very welcome.

Topics at Ten: “Be the Change”

This group meets at 10 am on the second and fourth
Friday of the month in members’ homes. We have
coffee/tea, then view short videos on a particular
non-fiction theme followed by discussion. This year
we’re investigating ways to “be the change” we’d like to
see in our society. Please join us!

The group meets on the third Monday of the month at
7:30 pm in our clubrooms at Cecil Green Park
House. Slides, travel talks and refreshments are shared
with members, spouses and guests.

The group meets every Thursday morning for a comfortably paced walk.
Newcomers and visitors are especially welcome.
