Interest Groups

The Interest Groups of the Faculty Women’s club provide a wonderful opportunity to meet new people, make new friends, and participate in fun, educational, and inspiring activities. Conveners of each group are listed on each group’s individual page. Links for each group are below.

For privacy reasons, individual contact information is not always listed for individual interest group. If you would like more information about any of the groups that do not have contact information, or if you would like to join one of them, either contact the convener using the FWC Member Directory, or reach us by e-mail!

Please note:  the annual membership fee must first be paid, in order to participate in any of the Interest Groups.

Art Appreciation
Join our monthly outings to local galleries and artists’ studios, followed by optional lunch in a nearby restaurant. Usually meeting on the third Thursday of each month, the scheduled day may vary depending on exhibits, gallery requirements, and tour availability. More information.

Beginners’ Snowshoeing
For anybody who enjoys the outdoors in winter. Approximately two-hour outings take place on the North Shore mountains on Monday mornings. No experience needed, just enthusiasm and a certain level of fitness to navigate the hills. More information.

Book Circulation
Members meet only once a year, on the first Monday of October, to pay the annual book fee of $30 and collect the first book. Thereafter, books are circulated approximately monthly, and at the end of the year members participate in a draw to choose a book to keep. New members are very welcome, but must notify a convenor before September 6th. More information.

Bridge-Mixed (Evening Social)
Enjoy an evening of Social Bridge, 7:30 pm on the first Friday of the month, October to May. Held in members’ homes, new members, singles or couples, are always welcome. More information.

Climate Change Solutions
This group meets to raise awareness of how dire the climate situation is and what concrete actions we can take to make it better. Meetings are the fourth Tuesday of the month to share activities, discuss videos, articles, or speakers, tour UBC facilities and plan actions for the Club. More information.

Exploring and Journeying Together in the Christian Faith
Connect with other Christian women to grow deeper in your relationship with God and to be part of a supportive community. French Conversation
The French group meets once a week on Wednesdays at 10:30 am at members’ homes for conversation, followed by the reading of a book chosen by the teacher. With the aid of a paid instructor, French conversation and study will be fostered for those who, although not fluent, are not beginners. More information.

Heritage
Our group meets once a month to tour historical buildings and places of interest in the Greater Vancouver area. We aim to meet on the third Friday of the month, but this may vary depending on our tour guides and locations. Outings typically involve lunch at a nearby restaurant. More information.

Hikers for a View
This group walks in city parks and forests, usually 1½-2 hours. Car-pooling is privately arranged or depends on walk location. Newcomers are welcome. More information.

Hiking
This fit, experienced, and committed group meets every Thursday for local hikes. Winter activities also include cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. In summer, longer hikes are arranged to other Lower Mainland areas. For safety, numbers are limited. Contact the convenors to join the wait list. More information.

Knit and Stitch
The group meets on alternate Wednesday mornings in members’ homes from 10:30 to 12:30 for knitting, stitchery, crafts, conversation, and refreshments. We invite members to submit items for sale at our Christmas Boutique stall, and ideas for new creations are always welcomed. New members are always welcome. More information.

Student Food and Wellness
Our group meets to supports student wellness and food insecurity by raising funds, collecting food and money for the AMS Food Bank, assisting the Acadia Food Hub, and providing information to our Club members through newsletter articles and speakers. More information.

Topics at Ten: “The Big Picture”
This discussion group meets on the 2nd & 4th Fridays monthly for either a social or a topical discussion. This year’s theme is the Big Picture, and we’ll be investigating some key events and trends shaping our world. Join us! More information.

Travel
Travel Zoom talks are usually held on the fourth Monday of the month during the academic year, but there may be some date changes to accommodate presenters. The travel group welcomes members, spouses and guests to share their travel photos and experiences. Assistance is available for online setup. More information.

Walking
The group meets every Thursday morning for a comfortably paced walk. Newcomers and visitors are especially welcome.  More information.

Writers
This group Meets monthly on a flexible schedule, to share writing projects and to discuss topics relevant to the writing process. For all genres of writers. More information.
