Hikers For A View

January/February 2020

The winter season finds us walking at sea level in a variety of places. Recently, we walked through Chinatown taking in the sites and especially the SunYat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden on Carrell Street. We then enjoyed a dim sum lunch. The winter weather took some of us to Pacific Spirit Park on the
snowy trails, where plenty of dog lovers exercise their pets.

Our group met every Thursday morning and they followed a route planned by the leader.  They each brought a  light lunch with a  drink, and they were usually home by 2:00 PM.  I asked the hikers which hike they had especially enjoyed.    One member said she had enjoyed standing under the Great Blue Heron nests in Stanley Park and watched the parent birds feed their baby herons.   Several hikers mentioned Kloochman Park as unusual.  It is approached through a Lighthouse Park neighbourhood, and begins with a very long staircase down to a  trail, which then drops several levels as it continues toward a bluff where we could sit overlooking a small bay.
