2016/2017 Scholarship Report

FACULTY WOMENS’ CLUB SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT

PRESERNTED AT THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING APRIL 4, 2017

This had been a banner year under the leadership of our president Jean McCutcheon and vice president Candace O’Conner along with the team work of the executive members as well as past presidents. We began the year with a sense of celebration of the FWC’s 100 years of service to the UBC.

As you know that we had decided to raise funds to establish the FWC 100-year Legacy graduate scholarship with a focus on raising $100,000. We have exceeded in raising $ 74,000 and we shall be offering our inaugural scholarship this September. We applaud your generous and persistent support that has made this possible.

Please refer to the attached chart for the market value and the book values of the Endowment funds of the scholarships/bursaries, amounts allocated for each scholarship/bursary and the scholars’ names who won those scholarships/bursaries.

We were informed by Treasurer Margaret Quick, by the unanimous approval of the executive, that $15,000 has been allocated for disbursement.

Please note that some of our awards had not been handed out yet and the Development office is assisting us on this matter. The Memorial prize will be awarded only in May/June. FWC Katherine Borgan scholarship at present has a spending allocation of $666.00 with a short fall of $334.00.  The FWC shall allocate money to cover the deficit toward its Annual account.

We the scholarship committee recommend that $15,000.00 be disbursed as follows:       FWC Katherine Borgan Scholarship……………..  $     334.00

FWC 100-year Legacy Scholarship…………………$ 14,666.00

We are thrilled to present the status of the FWC 100-year Legacy Graduate scholarship:

Endowment Fund……………………………………………$ 74,276.05

Individual donations  (2017)……………………………..$     905.00

FWC’s Annual contribution……………………………….$14,666.00

Total………….$89,847.05

May our celebrations of our service to UBC for the past 100 years go on as we strive to achieve our dream of raising $100,000 toward the 100-year legacy Graduate Scholarship becomes a reality in the nearest future.
